Ranging from the practical to the absurd and the demure to the ravishingly sexy, there’s a new boot in town- and the motto is goodbye to thigh and hello to high. As the autumn collections unfold, it’s clear a new, long and leggy silhouette reigns supreme, with the arrival of some fabulously slinky thigh-boots.
Although spotted everywhere from Jonathan Saunders to Calvin Klein, it was Raf Simons at Dior who presented a collection where for once, amongst a mainly muted, monochromatic colour palette, boots were the stars of the show. Legs were wrapped in skin-tight sheaths of rubber and latex, each pair sporting one or two deliciously clashing colours- dark and milk chocolates, plum and blackberry were all shades of choice, most appearing beneath more pared-down skirts and dresses to keep the collection gorgeous over garish.
My personal favourite thigh-boots were the delectable, liploss-pink pair; one part Barbie, one part strawberry lollipop, they caught autumn’s party-goer mood perfectly.
Unfortunately Dior boots are a wistful dream for most, so luckily brands like Kurt Geiger and Office are putting the thigh-high in high street, with some on-trend offerings this season.
