The “natural hair” movement doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon, and let’s face it ladies – taming the afro whilst looking good is a lot of work! So much work, you may want to consider getting some extra help.

I stumbled on this Heat Free hair when Brandy put up a post on instagram a few weeks ago. The hair is just that, heat-free, and is designed to look just like your natural hair. If you’re going natural (or want to look like it) check out this 100% virgin hair brand and their specific collections for hair types: For Kinks, For Kurls and For Koils (which is pretty self-explanatory), as tracks, clip-ons and closures (wigs soon!). You choose the hair that best suits your natural hair so while taking care of your real hair – or in-between hairstyles – you can throw this on and still be natural, sorta.

Prices start from about £83 for 12″ tracks to £300+ for full wig.

Taking care of our natural hair is important, whether that involves cutting off all the chemical treatments to start again naturally, or taking good care of it while being chemically treated. I personally don’t discriminate against perms or the use of weaves/wigs/braids – not everyone who “hides” their hair has bad hair underneath! As Black women, we have an advantage with hair and freedom to create and recreate as many styles as we fancy, so be proud of it. But be aware of how you treat your hair and learn to take “time outs” to give your hair a healthy breather.
