Christmas Face

How to achieve a long-lasting Christmas look: high-street style

Christmas is an expensive time of the year for everyone, whether it’s buying presents or getting enough party food to feed a small army. Regardless, cutting costs is ideal, and when it comes to your Christmas day makeup, the high street has got you sorted. You can achieve a high-end look without the high-end budget.
I think the most festive look you can go for is a subtle shimmery eye with a deep berry lip, but if you’re not comfortable going bold, Christmas day is not the time to risk it! It’s important to feel confident in the makeup you’re wearing, regardless of seasonal styles.
Regardless of the look you go for, for a Christmas day look, longevity is vital, as there’s no time to touch up during the day, so all products mentioned keep in mind a long lasting finish.
The Face
Despite the special occasion, it is vital to stick to what you know and to what you like, as you will be most likely wearing it all day.
If you are not usually a foundation wearer, this is not the time to start. A CC Cream such as the [wc_highlight color=”yellow”]‘1 2 3 Perfect CC Cream’ from Bourjois[/wc_highlight] (£9.99) will give you a glowing and even complexion, whilst keeping things lightweight. By adding a light layer of [wc_highlight color=”yellow”]Collection’s ‘Lasting Perfection Concealer’[/wc_highlight] (£4.19) where it’s needed, and powdering with a finely milled powder such as the [wc_highlight color=”yellow”]Bourjois ‘Healthy Mix Powder’[/wc_highlight] (£8.99) you can lock in that finish for the entire day, even when facing the heat of the kitchen. Where the powder is so well milled, you can load it on to keep things in place, but it will never look cakey on the skin.
If a full foundation is more for you, then [wc_highlight color=”yellow”]Loreal’s ‘True Match Foundation’ [/wc_highlight](£9.99) will give you a medium coverage with a naturally dewy finish, which again can be used with powder and concealer to create a flawless finish.

Soap and Glory ‘Solar Powder’
The [wc_highlight color=”yellow”]Soap and Glory ‘Solar Powder’[/wc_highlight] (£11.00) is the perfect bronzer for any skin type, as the duo-tone of the powder gives you three options, the lighter shade for a subtle colour, a mix of the two for a medium brown, and the darkest can be used for those who like a strong bronzed look. Due to the matte nature of the powder, it can be used for both a subtle tan and for a contoured look too.
By using a blusher with a hint of shimmer alongside a bronzer to contour, you highlight the cheekbones without need for a separate product. [wc_highlight color=”yellow”]Sleek’s blusher in ‘Rose Gold’[/wc_highlight] (£4.49) is the perfect winter cheek colour, as the rose pink adds a subtle flush whilst the gold shimmer particles catch the light without looking too full on.
The Eyes
christmasface3If you can’t go for glitter at Christmas, when can you? The [wc_highlight color=”yellow”]Revlon ‘PhotoReady Primer, Shadow and Sparkle’ in ‘Impression’ palette[/wc_highlight] (£8.99) has four gold toned colours alongside a gold glitter that can create a vast array of eye shadow looks, perfect for Christmas. The gold tones keep the look classy, whilst still rocking a festive shimmer.
If you have more time on your hands on Christmas morning and want to sparkle as much as you possibly can,  [wc_highlight color=”yellow”]Barry M[/wc_highlight] offers their ‘Dazzle Dust’ (£4.59) in a wide variety of colours. With a slick of Vaseline (£2.18) underneath, the glitter particles will stick to create a dramatic look.
A flesh-toned eye liner can work wonders on a tired eye, especially if you have small children up at the crack of dawn to see Santa Claus. By running a slick of [wc_highlight color=”yellow”]Rimmel’s ‘Scanadaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal’ in Nude[/wc_highlight] along the water line, the eye is instantly refreshed and opened up, adding an extra 6 hours of sleep in seconds. This is also the time to add black liner, either liquid or kohl, if that is what you usually do.
Use your judgement on liner, if you feel the look needs an extra something, a pen liner like the [wc_highlight color=”yellow”]Soap and Glory ‘Super Cat’ Liner [/wc_highlight](£6.00) will give you more control over where the line goes, saving time on cleaning up afterwards.
As for mascara, everyone will prefer something different. My personal favourite is [wc_highlight color=”yellow”]Maybelliene ‘The Falsies’ [/wc_highlight] (£7.99) which gives a very full on lash, but mascara is a very individual choice.
If you feel confident enough, false lashes can give a very dramatic, or very fluttery look. Eyelure provide the best high-street false lashes, which are reasonably easy to get a hang of, but yet again, stick to what you are comfortable with.
The Lips
Revlon Lip Butter

Nothing screams Christmas more than a deep berry or dark red lip. Even if you aren’t a fan of a dark, bold lip, you can still achieve a festive look, but on a more subtle level.
If bold is your thing, [wc_highlight color=”yellow”]Rimmel’s ‘Provocalips Lip Colour’ in ‘Kiss Fatal’ [/wc_highlight](£6.99) may be the one for you. The rich plum colour is perfect for this time of year, and the sealing balm that comes with the lip colour will keep it in place all day, even after a huge Christmas dinner you will still need a strong makeup remover to get rid of the remnants of colour.
If you still want to keep the plum vibe, but aren’t ready for a full on opaque colour, then something like the [wc_highlight color=”yellow”]Soap and Glory ‘Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick’ in ‘Raplumzel’[/wc_highlight] (£8.00) has a shiny, sheer finish, whilst still maintaining the berry tone.
If a vampy red is more for you, the [wc_highlight color=”yellow”]Rimmel ‘Apocalips Matte Lip Lacquer’ in ‘Burning Lava’[/wc_highlight] (£6.49) provides a non-drying matte finish that will last well. For a lighter option, the [wc_highlight color=”yellow”]Revlon ‘Lip Butter’ in ‘Red Velvet’[/wc_highlight] (£.7.99) still has a darkness about it, whilst staying moisturising and light.

Have a Merry Christmas face!
