  1. Exercise

Get up!
Get out of your comfort zone. It is not about working out at the gym for two hours every day. In fact, in order to lose those pounds you don’t need the gym at all. It can actually begin at home. With the advantage of having an internet connection along with a mobile, laptop or even a tablet, one can easily play an exercise video on the browser and get a good workout right from the comfort of the living room. All it requires is strong willpower and strength of mind to tackle your darkest fears in order to alter yourself for the better. Also, you can march around the house, walk or run up and down the stairs or even take a sixty minute stroll outside. This will not only help burn calories but it will make you feel fresh and awake too. Walk, run, jog or even sprint; just move your body for at least 30-60 minutes a day. Take your dog for a walk or if you don’t have a dog, just plug those earphones in and see where the music leads you.

  1. Diet

We have all been through the ‘eating everything and anything’ phase. Sometimes it just takes longer to realise that a poor diet needs a radical change. Many people don’t see the negative impact unhealthy foods have on their body until they get to a stage where they believe there is no turning back. Eating bread, cereal, chocolate or rice will just add to your weight. It is vital to change your diet altogether in order for you to succeed. For instance, instead of the usual breakfast; fried eggs, toast, cereal and so on, why not give oats a try? Oats are delicious and filling. Even more so, they take a few hours to digest and on the whole, they are a healthy food source. Add honey, almonds, or even a fruit of your choice to give your oats a sweeter taste. There are many healthy and filling options available, one just needs to know where to look in order to find them.

  1. Weigh yourself

Don’t be afraid to weigh yourself. We have all been in that position where the scale has made our eyes pop out of their sockets. Many people have been horrified at the truth that their eyes have beheld, knowing that it is entirely their own doing and only they are responsible for the gain. However, don’t worry, it is just a number and it will decrease. Weigh yourself on the first day of your journey; preferably in the morning when you wake up. Go back to the scale in thirty days and see the difference you have made. It will give you a sense of relief and a reason to go on and achieve the figure and lifestyle you want to achieve. Just know deep down that you can decrease that number. The power is in your hands alone.

  1. Never miss a meal – be organised and eat on time

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so why miss it? Always in a rush in the morning and can’t make time for breakfast? Wake up thirty minutes earlier and make that time. Prepare your meals in advance; the night before so you don’t need to worry about making lunch in the morning if you’re on a busy schedule. Prepare your food yourself, especially if you’re going for a salad; shop bought products contain hidden ingredients that are not good for the body. Always have a hearty breakfast, a clean lunch and a light dinner to end the day. Keep your meals in a time frame. For instance, keep a four hour gap between your breakfast and lunch, then lunch and dinner. If you feel hunger pangs in between those times, have a light snack. Good options for a light snack can range between fruits, coffee or a handful of nuts and dates.

  1. Drink plenty of water

Water is a basic necessity and it also aids in weight loss. Drinking 2 litres of water a day cleanses your body and keeps you hydrated, especially when you exercise. Drinking a glass of water before your meals is better than filling your body with artificial juices that contain preservatives and do the body no favours if you’re trying to keep off the pounds. Moreover, drinking detox water has its own magical benefits and it really works! It is simple. All you need to do is slice and dice 1 whole cucumber and 1 lemon with 1tbs of ginger in a jug of water and leave it overnight. Drink it throughout the next day. Cleanse your body with this water 4-5 days a week and see and feel the outcome.

  1. Drink green tea

Do you know the benefits of green tea? Drinking 4-5 cups of green tea a day reduces fat on the body, mostly around the belly. So, if you have unwanted belly fat you so eagerly want gone, it is important to drink green tea throughout your weight loss journey. Drinking green tea before each meal is the trick and will make a large amount of difference.

  1. Keep the clothes that don’t fit you anymore

We all have those pairs of jeans or dresses that are tight around the waist or bust. We end up breaking the zips or buttons in order for them to fit, but are left disappointed in the end. Why not test yourself and leave those jeans and dresses in the back of your wardrobe when you begin your weight loss journey? In a month or two after you’ve incinerated a few pounds, take them out and try them on. The difference you see and feel will be unbelievable and it will make you more determined to reach your fitness goals.

  1. Take a “before” and “after” photo

Stand in front of that mirror that shows you need to shed those pounds. On the morning of your first day in becoming a new you, take a photo of yourself. After thirty days of eating clean and working out, take another photo wearing the same outfit you wore a month ago; you will definitely see and feel a difference and not only will it motivate you even more, it will make you content. Keep doing this until you have reached your goals.

  1. Don’t give up!

Most importantly, don’t give up! Saying “I can’t do it” is just another way of saying “never” and telling yourself “no”.  It is never too late. The worst thing one can do is think pessimistically. One should always remain positive and determined when wanting to achieve a goal. Constantly tell yourself that you can do it and it will lead to self confidence and higher self esteem. Look at yourself in the mirror and tell your reflection that you want to change and see a new you when you look back in a few months time. It doesn’t happen overnight; it takes time to gain weight and even more time to lose it, but that does not mean that it cannot happen. Of course it can. It might not happen tomorrow, but with firm belief and an aim, the change will occur. One day you will look back on the old you and see how far you have come. Anything is possible.
