Science says the human body is made up of 60% water, give or take.
Due to the major effects of dehydration, it is, therefore, highly recommended to drink around 8 glasses of water a day (or up to 2litres if you’re hardcore). Although there is very little science behind the portions, it is still important to drink enough water to keep your body healthy and hydrated.
Not everyone likes drinking water. If you’re someone who prefers drinks with a little more flavour, try fruit-infused water!

  1. Drinking Water Can Treat and Prevent Headaches

Does your head hurt all the time? Do you drink enough water during the day? Dehydration can trigger headaches and migraines in some people. Several studies have indicated that water can relieve you of headaches. If you don’t drink enough water and tend to be the victim of headaches, then it is high time that you started drinking enough water. Keep yourself healthy and headache free at all times! Water is a free cure for those awful headaches and migraines. All you need to do is turn the tap on and drink your headache away!
 

  1. Drinking Water Aids In Weight Loss

Everyone wants to lose a bit of weight don’t they? Eating healthy and exercising regularly is all a part of that process of shedding away those pounds, as well as drinking enough water throughout the day. If you are trying to lose weight and not drinking enough water then it is time that you did. Drinking around 8 glasses of water a day removes by-products of fat in your body, reduces your food intake, by filling your tummy before meals so that you eat less and reduces your hunger; all in all raising your metabolism. Furthermore, the more water you drink, the more you visit the toilet, which realistically flushes out all the bad toxins in your body.
 

  1. Drinking Water Can Help The Skin Look Good

We all want flawless looking skin don’t we? Make up and lotions can do so little to make your skin look good. There is always the free option of giving your body the thing that it needs the most: Water. Your skin already contains plenty of water and this functions as a protective barrier to prevent excess fluid loss. However, don’t let this fact keep you from drinking water. Drinking enough water daily keeps your skin hydrated and keeps the fine lines and wrinkles away. If you don’t drink enough water, then your skin will become dehydrated and dry, which doesn’t look very appealing does it? Of course, water can make your skin look radiant; it is just the matter of drinking it.
 

  1. Drinking Water Can Help Your Kidneys

Our body fluids help to transport waste products in and out of cells. The main toxin in the body is blood urea nitrogen which is a water soluble waste that is able to pass through the kidneys in order to be excreted in the urine. Therefore, your kidneys do a great job of cleansing and getting rid of toxins as long as you are drinking enough fluids; in this case water.  When you drink enough water, urine flows freely, being light in colour and free of any odour. When your body is not getting enough water, your urine concentration, colour and odour increases because the kidneys trap extra fluids for bodily functions. If you drink too little of water, you could be at risk of kidney stones, which is a nasty experience for both men and women. All in all, to keep your kidneys healthy and not dehydrated, which can be painful with our without suffering from kidney stones, you should drink more water.
 

  1. Drinking Water Can Prevent Constipation

Nobody wants to suffer from constipation do they? It is uncomfortable, not to mention painful. If your body is getting enough water, it keeps things flowing along your gastrointestinal tract and prevents constipation from occurring.  When you do not get enough water in your body, the colon pulls water from the stools to maintain hydration, which results in constipation. Drinking enough water and eating enough fibre is the perfect combination to avoid the trauma of constipation, as the fluid pumps up the fibre and acts like a broom to keep your bowel functioning properly. Drink enough water in a day to keep the constipation away!
 

  1. Drinking Water Can Help During Exercise

It is highly important to drink water before, during and after exercise to keep the body hydrated. If you do not stay hydrated, then of course your physical performance will suffer greatly. Dehydration can have a very noticeable effect if you lose as little as 2% of your body’s water content. This can lead to body temperature control, increased fatigue, reduced motivation to perform an exercise and make the exercise  feel much more difficult, both physically and mentally. Keeping yourself hydrated by drinking enough water during your workout has shown to prevent any of the mentioned from occurring and may even reduce oxidative stress that occurs during a high intensity exercise. Therefore, if you exercise intensely and tend to sweat a lot, then staying hydrated can aid you in performing the exercise better.
 
If you have trouble drinking enough water during the day, then I will share some tips with you on how you can add water to your every day routine:

  • Drink one glass of water when you wake up
  • Drink one glass of water before every meal or snack
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables. Their high water content will add to your hydration, as around 20% of our fluid intake comes from foods
  • Always keep a bottle of water in your bag if you are heading outside
  • Drink one glass of water before you go to sleep
